Printed or handwritten: reading a signature
2026-10-07
A printed signature is part of the image. A handwritten signature is a physical mark on the impression. They are different features, and neither should be inferred from a small photograph.
Request clear photographs of the margins and any marks on the reverse. Ask whether an edition was issued unsigned, how it was numbered and which catalogue reference supports the description.
An unsigned book or magazine print may be entirely consistent with its edition. A signature on its own is not an authentication opinion.
